James Hedley completed his first full season of GB3 in 2022, after a one-off outing in 2021. The 2019 Ginetta Junior champion won multiple British F4 races across the next two seasons, and showed flashes of that form across two teams in GB3 this year.
A podium at Snetterton was his best result, and he looked like a driver to beat in the build-up to the final round at Donington, only for misfortune to strike…
Here’s his analysis of the season.
Best moment
My best moment was being over half a second clear in FP1 at Silverstone.
Toughest moment
My toughest moment was being quickest in FP1 at Donington, only to find out I broke my thumb and couldn’t race. I really wanted to end the year on the high, but that does sum up the season.
Favourite driver to race against this year
My favourite driver to race against was probably Luke (Browning). On my way to fifth place, all the way from the back at Donington, I encountered Luke and we had a good battle.
That what if moment
The what if moment is when I got a run on Joel (at Donington) but lifted off the throttle and said goodbye to a podium. I don’t know why I did that and it still bugs me to this day!
If I could race anything next year, it would be…
If I could race anything next year it would be F1. It would save a lot of time and money, but unfortunately that’s not possible. I would be moving on but I don’t have the budget to do so. Therefore, if we can raise the budget to do the GB3 again with a championship winning team, it would be a pleasure to come back. I do believe it is the best series for setting myself up for the future and will give me the accolades to move on.
I’m going to spend my winter doing…
I’m going to spend my winter time training harder, but most importantly, smarter than ever. Once my hand is fixed of course!
