Granfors draws level with Browning in Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup

09 May 2022

There’s a tie at the top of the 2022 Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup standings following the Silverstone round, where Fortec’s Joel Granfors took a double pole position.

The Swedish driver secured pole position for the first race of the weekend on Saturday with his fastest effort in qualifying, which put him more than three tenths of a second clear of the field.

The race two grid, decided by each driver’s second best times, also saw Granfors take pole by a slightly increased margin of 0.352 seconds.

He made full use of his poles, taking a commanding victory in the first contest and claiming second place in race two, with the points scored there helping him to steal the championship lead from Luke Browning at the end of the weekend.

Granfors earned a total of £500 in prize money as part of the Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup, the same earned by Browning at the Oulton Park season opener, putting both drivers level at the top of the early standings.

There's a total prize pot of £8,000 for the initiative in 2022, with an end of year prize of £2,000 for the driver with the most pole positions, plus the same amount will go to the team of the driver with the most poles.

“I don’t know what to do with the money!” Granfors said afterwards. “Maybe a new set of tyres or something for the next race!”
