GB3 graduates impress in Abu Dhabi F2 test

25 November 2022

Three GB3 Championship graduates were in action in the post-season FIA Formula 2 test at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit this week, as preparations begin for the 2023 campaign.

Clement Novalak, Oliver Bearman and Kush Maini have inked deals to race in the championship next year, and the trio all enjoyed sessions well towards the sharp end of the time sheets.

It was Maini who perhaps impressed most for Campos Motorsport. The 2020 BRDC British F3 runner-up ended the test with the fastest time in the final session of the three days this afternoon (Friday), though his best overall time came in today’s morning session, just over a tenth of a second shy of the best effort of the entire week set by Victor Martins. In the six sessions held, Maini was inside the top-seven in four of them.

2019 BRDC British F3 champion Clement Novalak is preparing for his second F2 campaign, and has reunited with the Trident squad with whom he finished third in FIA F3 in 2021. The Frenchman’s best time also came during the Friday morning test, though like Maini, ended the week in style with the third quickest time in the final session.

Finally, 2021 GB3 race winner Ollie Bearman will also step up to F2 next year after finishing third in F3 in 2022, and showed lots of promise for PREMA. The British driver’s best effort came in the afternoon session of the first day, and was inside the top-three on two occasions.
