Nick Gilkes, Cian Shields and Alex Connor were the top three drivers in the final race of the season at Donington Park. Here’s how each driver reacted after the race.
Winner, Nick Gilkes, Hillspeed:
“That’s about as well as it could’ve gone to be honest. I can’t thank the team enough, they put in so much effort this year, and to finish it off like this is incredible, what a race. Cian stretched me out so much, that was intense, I’m lost for words really.
“I think the restart went as well as it could’ve done, in all honesty it didn’t make must difference because Cian was pressuring me anyway, it just added more cars to the mix. Yeah I can’t believe it, I’m lost for words.”
Second, Cian Shields, Hitech GP:
“This weekend was really good. We were on the pace from Thursday morning and we just carried it through. Tricky qualifying but race two was good with the tyre choice from the team, P2 for the team has helped us secure the Teams Championship for Hitech today.
“I never expected all this from the first year in cars. We’ve got a couple of ideas for next year but we’re not sure yet, got to test some different things and see what happens.”
Third, Alex Connor, Arden VRD:
“Starting higher up on the grid helped, it was a difficult race, I had Nico pressurising me at the end, he did a great job.
“I managed to hold him off, I think he put up a tough fight on the last couple of laps.”
