Grundtvig powers to race three victory at Oulton Park

18 April 2022

Fortec’s Mikkel Grundtvig led from lights to flag in the reverse grid contest at Oulton Park.

With the grid decided by the inverse of the qualifying result, Grundtvig made a great start and pulled out a comfortable lead on the first lap. He regularly extended the margin, to take the flag nearly six seconds ahead of Douglas Motorsport’s Tommy Smith, who held off a late charge from Arden’s David Morales.

Hillspeed's Nick Gilkes held onto a podium place for much of the race, only to relinquish that to Morales late on, and finished seven tenths clear of Chris Dittmann Racing's Branden Oxley, who pulled off a diving move on Fortec's Zak Taylor on lap seven to steal fifth..

Taylor therefore claimed sixth, a second clear of Hitech GP's Cian Shields, with Max Esterson eighth for Douglas Motorsport.

Carlin's Javier Sagrera was ninth, just two tenths behind the American and made the most progress of the leading drivers with three places gained, while Elite's John Bennett ended his first weekend in single-seaters by completing the top-10.

There was drama though for local man and double race winner Luke Browning, who was eliminated from the race on lap five with front suspension damage after contact at the Hislops chicane.
