Daniel Mavlyutov won his first GB3 race in the final contest at Oulton Park. Ayato Iwasaki and Edward Pearson joined him on the podium, and here’s how Mavlyutov and Pearson reacted afterwards.
Winner, Daniel Mavlyutov, Hillspeed:
“Thankfully no racing then, the wets were not the tyres for that race, the whole track was dry. I was just hoping there would be a lot of safety cars. The first safety car restart was quite good, I got a good gap, and the guys behind me got a bit of wheelspin. Then some guys went off, it worked in my favour, that’s motorsport, a good day today.
“I enjoy GB3 the car, Oulton is probably my least favourite circuit in the UK, it’s still nice to win the race here. Looking forward to Silverstone which is a track that I’m a little better at. Looking forward to next weekend now.”
Second, Edward Pearson, Fortec Motorsport:
“Yeah it was tough, when we went out, I went oh my god it’s dry, I don’t think we expected that. It started to rain a bit when the first safety car came out so I went ok, it might be alright. I kept my concentration, kept my head down, that’s all you can do.
“It’s been a tough weekend. I think we’ve got a lot more pace than it looks like we do on paper. Qualifying was not our strongest, we’ve got pace to be in the top ten, hopefully that will improve throughout the season.”
