Hitech Pulse-Eight confirms Michael Shin as GB3’s 20th driver for 2023 season

03 March 2023

Hitech Pulse-Eight has confirmed that Michael Shin will compete in this year's GB3 Championship with the reigning champion team, as he embarks on his second season in single-seaters.

The South Korean made the transition from karts to Formula 4 last season, joining the F4 UAE Championship grid, which allowed him to gain valuable experience as he finished seventh in the Rookies’ standings.

The 18-year-old then stepped up to a full-season campaign in British F4, claiming a race win in only his second outing alongside several top-five finishes and a fastest lap, placing him 11th in the points table.

He also took part in the FIA Motorsport Games last November, and this year has competed in the Formula Regional Middle East Championship, taking a podium and several points-scoring finishes.

Shin has tested with Hitech’s GB3 team at Silverstone this week, and is now confirmed as the 20th driver to commit to this year’s championship, with more than a month still remaining until the season opener at Oulton Park.

The Silverstone-based team has now completed its GB3 line-up for 2023, with Shin joining British F4 champion Alex Dunne and French F4 graduate Souta Arao at the squad.

Michael Shin said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Hitech GP for the 2023 GB3 Championship. Last year, they were very strong, winning both the teams’ and the drivers’ titles. I believe that will be a great environment for me to learn and improve as the season progresses.

“GB3 provides an excellent path up the racing ladder, with additional seat time, fully reverse grid races, and races at three different Grand Prix venues. We’ve got an exciting new year ahead of us, and I can’t wait to get started!”

Hitech GP’s GB3 Team Manager Phil Blow said: “We’re really pleased for Michael to be joining our team. He drove exceptionally well in the Formula Regional Middle East Championship and made great progress in the car. His pace during the GB3 tests leaves us feeling confident that we will have a strong season together and can fight for some good results.”
