GB3 graduates were the drivers to beat in the qualifying race for the Macau GP, as 2022 champion Luke Browning took a dominant win ahead of 2023 runner-up Alex Dunne.
Browning started from pole, secured in superb style in qualifying yesterday, and after going wheel to wheel with Gabriele Mini on the first lap, held his nerve to lead the first lap, while teammate Dunne went from sixth to third at the same time.
A couple of incidents on the first lap saw Browning’s early lead of two seconds wiped out due to the deployment of the safety car, but he made a strong enough restart to hold the lead through the flat out blast on the run to Lisboa.
Dunne meanwhile took full advantage of the slipstream, and slipped up the inside of Mini at the same corner to take second.
The GB3 graduates then pulled clear at the front of the field, with Browning taking the win at the end of the 10 lap contest, just over a second clear of Dunne, with the pair securing front row slots for tomorrow’s FIA F3 World Cup race at the Macau Grand Prix as a result.
Max Esterson, Christian Mansell and Tommy Smith secured 16th, 20th and 23rd respectively.
