GB3 runner-up Dunne stuns with fastest time in FIA F3 Imola test

24 October 2023

GB3 Championship runner-up Alex Dunne ended his first FIA Formula 3 Championship test in stunning style, by topping the times in the final session at Imola.

The Irishman, who remained with Hitech Pulse-Eight for his first experience of FIA F3 machinery, joined the test midway through the first day (Monday) after completing his GB3 campaign 24 hours beforehand.

He returned to action on Tuesday morning, setting the tenth fastest time, but it was the wet afternoon session where he impressed most, lapping over a second quicker than the rest of the field.

He was 1.033s faster than Jenzer Motorsport’s Charlie Wurz, with Dino Beganovic a couple of tenths further back.

It was a good day all round for GB3 graduates, with Donington Park podium finisher Max Esterson recording the fifth quickest time for Jenzer, and newly crowned champion Callum Voisin also in action with Rodin Carlin.

Other former GB3 contenders in action included Tommy Smith, Cian Shields and Christian Mansell. Last year’s GB3 champion Luke Browning was in action yesterday morning, before returning to the UK for his Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award prize test at Silverstone with the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant F1 Team.
