Looking Sharp! GB3 Championship leader Louis tops Brands Hatch GP test

16 April 2024

Rodin Motorsport’s championship leader Louis Sharp was fastest in two of today’s four test sessions on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, as the young Kiwi again showed his speed in GB3.

The Oulton Park race winner and reigning British F4 champion saved his best for last, recording a best lap of 1m18.883s in the final session of the day, with his time being just over a tenth of a second away from the qualifying lap record.

He was 0.180s quicker on the combined time sheets than Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Will Macintyre, who recorded his best lap in session three after the lunch break, one of only two drivers in the top-10 not to record their best time at the end of the day, with that effort being good enough to lead the penultimate session.

Macintyre was just a thousandth of a second clear of Rodin’s Freddie Slater, as the 15-year-old continues his evaluation of GB3 machinery, having dominated last year’s Ginetta Junior Championship.

Elite’s McKenzy Cresswell was next up, 0.048s further back from Slater and just under a tenth clear of the second Hitech machine of Tymek Kucharczyk, who was fifth.

The second Elite car of Jarrod Waberski was sixth, a quarter of a second further back and 0.134s ahead of the lead Fortec machine of GB4 graduate Colin Queen.

Oulton Park race two winner John Bennett was eighth for JHR Developments, half a tenth away from Queen and the final driver within a second of the outright pace.

Hitech’s Gerrard Xie was the other driver to top a session today, having led the way in session one. His session four time proved to be his best however, with VRD Racing by Arden’s Noah Ping completing the top-10 courtesy of his session three time.

20 drivers took part in testing today, including a trialist with Chris Dittmann Racing.

The field will be back in action at Silverstone next week, with testing on Thursday and Friday ahead of the second race event of the year on 27/28 April.
