Sharp takes early Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup lead

02 April 2024

As debut weekends go, Louis Sharp’s first GB3 event at Oulton Park will take some beating.

Not only did the New Zealander leave Cheshire as the championship leader thanks to a win, a second place and a fifth, but he also went home £500 better off too, thanks to the Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup.

Sharp earned both pole positions in qualifying on Saturday morning. After a stunning performance, Sharp claimed pole for race one by 0.287s, the biggest pole margin at Oulton Park in GB3 since 2016.

In doing so, the Rodin Motorsport driver earned £250 for each pole position, giving him the early lead in this year’s Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup.

Prizes in the competition are provided by long-time series supporter John Cavill, son of Jack. The driver with the most pole positions at the end of the year wins the Pole Position Cup, plus the end of year £2,000 prize, while their team receives the same honours.

Previous winners of the Pole Position Cup include Jake Hughes, George Russell, Linus Lundqvist, Zak O’Sullivan and Callum Voisin.
