GB3 champion Browning goes for FIA F3 title at Monza

30 August 2024

2022 GB3 champion Luke Browning heads to Monza this weekend (31 August/1 September) as part of a six way fight for this year’s FIA Formula 3 title battle.

The British driver, who has remained with Hitech Pulse-Eight since his GB3 title, has won two races to sit third in the standings heading to the famous Italian venue, having also taken two pole positions and set two fastest laps.

Browning is just six points away from the championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli, who is yet to win a race this year.

Fellow GB3 alumni Christian Mansell is also in title contention, heading to Monza in sixth place.

Speaking to the FIA F3 website, Browning admitted he was “confident” heading to the finale.

“We were very strong last year in the race, came from 27th on the grid to P5 in the Sprint Race before I think some penalties happened, but our pace has been super strong, so it will be interesting.

“I think Qualifying now with the two groups makes it a little bit more consistent. I am only six points behind, there has been bigger swings than that each round this year, so we are well positioned for it.

“I think looking back I have been in this situation three times now, I have come out on top twice with British F4, GB3, so I am confident that I can come out on top again.”

Mansell is 32 points away from the championship lead, and is in relaxed mood ahead of the finale.

“I am feeling pretty good. I feel quite excited to go down to Monza, always a nice, exciting round, so I am looking forward to it.

“To be honest, the likelihood of me winning the title is low, and that's fine with me. So, I am pretty much going to approach it the same as any other weekend to be honest, just try and score the maximum amount of points and that is going to put me in a good position regardless.”
