Waberski fastest in session three, Ping quickest overall on day one at Silverstone

Elite Motorsport’s Jarrod Waberski was the quickest driver in the final GB3 Championship session of the day at Silverstone, but just missed out on beating Noah Ping’s outright best from the first test this morning.

Waberski’s effort of 1m53.445s was less than a tenth of a second quicker than Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Gerrard Xie in the final Thursday test, with Fortec’s returning contender James Wharton third, with the best times only around a tenth away from the day’s best despite persistent light drizzle.

Rodin’s title challenger Louis Sharp completed a strong day with fourth in the final session, less than a tenth away from Wharton and 0.037s ahead of Shawn Rashid’s VRD Racing by Arden car.

Hitech’s Will Macintyre completed a top-six covered by less than half a second, was was 0.078s ahead of Elite Motorsport’s McKenzy Cresswell in seventh.

JHR’s Patrick Heuzenroeder was 0.015s in arrears to take eighth, half a tenth clear of Fortec’s Edward Pearson with Ping completing the session three top-10 for VRD Racing by Arden.

Ping’s effort of 1m53.340s remained unbeaten for the rest of the day, 0.063s ahead of teammate Nikita Johnson, who also recorded his best lap this morning.

Waberski and Xie were third and fourth quickest thanks to their session three efforts, with Sharp fifth and Wharton sixth.

Arthur Rogeon (Rodin), Rashid, Cresswell and Macintyre completed the day’s top-10, which was covered by less than six tenths of a second, with the top-16 split by 0.987s.

Newcomer Jacob Douglas ended his first day of official GB3 action by setting his best time of the day in the final test, putting him 22nd overall, but just 1.647s away from top spot.

Testing resumes tomorrow, with two more sessions at 11.45 and 15.00.
