Reigning GB3 champion Voisin heads alumni 1-2 in Spa FIA F3 qualifying

26 July 2024

Reigning GB3 champion Callum Voisin claimed a stunning maiden FIA Formula 3 pole position in qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps on Friday.

Voisin, who has struck a rich vein of form in the F1 feeder category, with four successive points finishes including a first podium at Silverstone, set a best lap of 2m04.321s to pip fellow GB3 alumni Alex Dunne to pole position.

At one of the most challenging circuits on the calendar, Voisin and Dunne’s circuit experience, courtesy of their stint in GB3 last year, ensured they headed the F3 field in the crucial qualifying session, which forms the grid for the main ‘feature’ race in Belgium on Sunday.

Voisin was just over a tenth of a second quicker than Irishman Dunne, who has also claimed a podium finish in his first F3 campaign.

Two other GB3 alumni were inside the top-10, with Max Esterson enjoying one of his best sessions of the year to set the sixth fastest time, ahead of 2022 GB3 champion and title contender Luke Browning in seventh.
