What they said: Silverstone race one

John Bennett, Louis Sharp and Jarrod Waberski were the top three drivers in the first race of the weekend at Silverstone. Here's how each driver reacted afterwards.

Winner, John Bennett, JHR Developments:
"A great win, all thanks to the team, the car was awesome. Fourth to first, so probably my favourite win of the season so far. I had a mega first lap, got off the line well and saw Louis and McKenzy [Cresswell] fighting through Maggotts and Becketts, so I set it up, got the run and led lap one and never looked back really.

"I was confident, as long as I got a clean safety car restart I'd be able to lead and pull a gap, so it was a mega race. We struggled a bit in testing, we had a couple of issues but we did the job in quali and we knew we could fight from the second row. We start P3 tomorrow, so another opportunity for more good points. It's very close in the championship now, but we need to keep going."

Second, Louis Sharp, Rodin Motorsport:
"It was a good race. Starting from P2 I got the lead into turn one and then me and McKenzy had a bit of a battle coming through Maggotts and Becketts. John was able to get a run on both of us, so unfortunate not to get the win, but at the end of the day it's still really good points. I believe we're back in the lead of the championship now which is good, it's where we should be, so overall it's been a good day. But we still need to push for a win tomorrow.

"I had to be careful [in the battle with Cresswell] as I'm fighting for the championship, so I can't afford to have a crash or an incident, but at the end of the day you still want to do the best you can. It's a balance of what you can get and what you can't, but it was a good battle and I was able to stay ahead which is nice. I'm not sure what happened to him, I think there was an incident behind and the safety car was out for a few laps, but it's been a good day, but more to work on for tomorrow."

Third, Jarrod Waberski, Elite Motorsport:
"It's really good, we've made some improvements with the car and I can't thank the team enough. I was a little bit disappointed after qualifying, because on the second set we got put out of position with quite a bit of traffic. Pole was definitely on, but we know the car is good and a podium in race one on our worst set of tyres, I'm happy with that.

"To have all my family here really means a lot, and obviously everyone back home too, all the messages I get, I can't thank everyone enough. It's good to start the weekend off with a podium and we can hopefully get a few more."
