McKenzy Cresswell, Louis Sharp and Gerrard Xie were the top three drivers in qualifying at Silverstone this morning. Here's how each driver reacted at the end of the session.
Double pole, McKenzy Cresswell, Elite Motorsport: "It was really important. We didn’t have the start to the year we wanted so it’s really nice to get the boost in confidence from this. I knew the car had it in it, I just needed to go out and do my job. Elite have given me an amazing car to go and do the job so I’m really thankful to them. I hope I can repay their efforts in the races with two wins. That’s my goal.
"It’s difficult to point out [one reason why things seem to go well at Silverstone]. I feel our car is very strong at high speed so it’s very easy to be confident in the car and push the entry. I think that’s kind of what you need round here so. I’m really happy to have the car to do the job. We’ve got a good 60/70 points to make up at least so we need to score big this weekend."
Second, Louis Sharp, Rodin Motorsport: "I think it’s been a pretty good quali. It would have been nice to be P1 but at the end of the day we’re ahead of the people we need to be ahead of so really can’t complain too much. I’ve got to give a big thank you to the team. We were struggling a little bit in practice yesterday but the car was really good this morning, especially on that first run. Lost a bit of pace on the second run but the car was definitely good enough today.
"When it’s this close anything can happen. We were leading going into Zandvoort and unfortunately that DNF in race two whilst running P2 has really hurt us as we lost a potential race win but if not a guaranteed podium so trying to claw those points back now. We’re 20 off the lead so I need a good weekend here and so far it’s in a good position to do that. But anything can happen in the races. I've got to keep it clean and keep on pushing."
Third, Gerrard Xie: "I think this weekend we’re pretty strong on pace even in practice as well. A bit of a mistake on our side, we did an extra lap which didn’t work out and we missed a final lap by 10 seconds. But it’s a good result and I think we’re on the pace the whole year sometimes just a bit unlucky.
"A massive thanks to the team for giving me this great car to fight for the front. Hopefully I can fight for the win. I think at the start we definitely have a chance."
