Macintyre tops wet session three, Hedley fastest overall on Thursday

28 March 2024

Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Will Macintyre posted the fastest time in the final GB3 Championship test session of the day at Oulton Park, which was affected by rain throughout.

As a result, and with conditions earlier in the day resulting in quicker times, VRD Racing by Arden’s James Hedley ended the first day at the Cheshire circuit with the fastest time, courtesy of his session two effort of 1m30.709s.

Macintyre’s session three time of 1m40.890s ensured he continued his upward progression today, after ending session one in 10th, and then rising to fifth in session two.

He was 0.027s clear of Rodin Motorsport’s Louis Sharp, who was second quickest for the third time on Thursday.

The New Zealander was half a tenth clear of outright pacesetter Hedley, who was third in the final test and a tenth clear of JHR’s John Bennett, who was quickest this morning.

Macintyre’s teammate Tymek Kucharczyk enjoyed his best test of the day in fifth, and only a quarter of a second away from top spot, while Americans Ugo Ugochukwu (Rodin) and Colin Queen (Fortec) were sixth and seventh, and separated by 0.037s.

The third Rodin car of Arthur Rogeon was eighth, four tenths away from P1, with JHR’s Josh Irfan and the third Hitech of Gerrard Xie completing the session three top-10, which was covered by less than eight tenths of a second.

Each driver set their best times of the day in session two, which saw Hedley, Sharp and Bennett fill the top-three spots.

Testing resumes tomorrow (Friday) with two further 30-minute sessions, with live timing available throughout.
