JHR Developments’ John Bennett broke the GB3 lap record around the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit last weekend, as he claimed the Sunoco Fastest Driver of the Weekend Award.
The championship runner-up recorded a time of 1m19.097s in the first race of the weekend on Saturday, an effort that was to remain unchallenged for the rest of the event.
In the process, Bennett broke Matthew Rees’ previous lap record of 1m19.231s set back in 2022, and registered the fastest four-wheel race lap around the mighty Grand Prix circuit since the DTM’s visit to Kent back in 2019.
Bennett’s lap came in pursuit of race leader McKenzy Cresswell, so the prospect was for an even quicker time had he benefited from clear running!
Six different drivers claimed the Sunoco Fastest Driver of the Weekend Award in 2024, with Bennett and Hitech Pulse-Eight’s Tymek Kucharczyk the only contenders to claim it twice.
