GB3 graduates complete post-season FIA F3 testing

16 October 2024

Nine graduates from the GB3 Championship concluded FIA F3 post-season testing at Barcelona this week, with competitive times posted across a closely matched field.

Having shown well at Jerez last week, 2024 runner-up John Bennett was in impressive form again, ending the two days with the eighth fastest time in Wednesday’s second session, and was just four tenths of a second away from top spot in session one.

Javier Sagrera was fifth fastest at the end of the second day, while Jose Garfias, a GB3 contender in 2021, was ninth.

Multiple GB3 race-winner Roman Bilkinski’s best showing was also in Wednesday’s second session as he went 13th fastest.

Meanwhile, 2024 champion Louis Sharp demonstrated constant progression to climb the order to 14th at the end of the test for Rodin Motorsport.

Ugo Ugochukwu’s best run came in Tuesday morning’s opening session as he registered the sixth quickest time, with James Wharton, a two-time GB3 contender this year 13th in Tuesday session one, and Hitech’s Gerrard Xie 21st in Tuesday’s second session.

Freddie Slater, who made his GB3 debut at Donington Park in September, also showed a strong turn of speed, with the sixth fastest time in Tuesday session two.

Sharp, Xie, Ugochukwu and Wharton have already secured their places on next year’s FIA F3 grid, with Sharp and Xie remaining at the squads they competed for in GB3; Rodin and Hitech respectively. Their next F3 action will come when testing resumes in the Spring.
