Rodin Motorsport’s Louis Sharp not only claimed the GB3 Championship title at Brands Hatch last weekend, but the British-born New Zealander also wrapped up the Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup.
At one stage during Saturday’s qualifying session, it looked as if McKenzy Cresswell was on course to take a pole double, which would have resulted in a tie at the top of the Pole Position Cup standings.
But with his final lap, Sharp found an improvement which not only vaulted him up the order to third in qualifying, but rebalanced the second quickest lap times to such an extent, that he earned pole for race two.
Sharp thus ended the season with five pole positions, two more than any other driver. His efforts earned him the £2,000 end of year prize and a trophy, presented by Award founder John Cavill.
Sharp’s five poles also netted him an additional £1,250 in prize money, with a £250 prize for each pole position.
Courtesy of Sharp’s efforts, the Rodin Motorsport team were the recipients of the David Poole-Warren Pole Position Cup, and an additional £2,000 prize, presented by Gill Biffa.
“I'm really happy to have won the Pole Position Cup” Sharp said. “We’re in quite a tough situation so that prize money is going to go towards me going testing and helping me live in the UK, so unfortunately I won’t be able to spend it on anything nice but it means I’ll still be able to race! It’s two grand which is a lot of money and it’s going to go to a good cause. I’m really happy with the money and it means a lot to have it.”
