Hillspeed provides GB3 tests for AU3 front-runners

06 February 2025

GB3 squad Hillspeed will provide test opportunities for the leading two drivers in the 2025 AU3 Championship.

The race-winning squad will offer a multi-day test package in the brand new Tatuus MSV GB3-025 car for the inaugural AU3 champion, while the runner-up will receive a subsidised test package.

Antipodean drivers have enjoyed a growing presence in GB3 in recent seasons, with seven Australians racing in the category since 2021, while two New Zealanders took part in last year's campaign, including eventual champion Louis Sharp.

Hillspeed's prize initiative comes after the team finalised a partnership with AU3 promotor Tim Macrow Racing, to give Australian drivers a pathway into European competition, a route F1 race-winners Mark Webber, Daniel Ricciardo and Oscar Piastri all embarked upon in their junior careers.

“The partnership we’ve established with the newly rebranded AU3 Championship is very exciting, and we’re delighted to be able to offer the significant prize package we’ve announced" Hillspeed Team Principal Richard Ollerenshaw said.

"Australia has long produced some outstanding racing drivers, and with AU3 following a similar path to GB3 I’m certain the championship will be a huge success.

“At Hillspeed we have long championed young drivers, guiding them through the ranks and providing the very best foundation with our focus on driver development. We have vast experience working with drivers from overseas, offering relocation packages and working hand-in-hand with parents to ensure young racers are in the best possible surroundings while progressing their career away from home.”

Tim Macrow added: “It’s really exciting to provide a proper pathway locally and to give drivers relevant experience. The prizes through our partner Hillspeed in the UK are super exciting, and is exactly what aspiring Australian drivers need to further their career.”
