The Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup will run for a tenth successive season in the 2022 GB3 Championship partnered by the BRDC, with a boosted prize fund courtesy of the continued generosity of award founder John Cavill.
The award goes to the fastest drivers in qualifying, with £36,000 in prize money handed to drivers and teams since 2013. Previous winners include Jake Hughes, George Russell, Will Palmer, Ricky Collard, Enaam Ahmed, Linus Lundqvist, Johnathan Hoggard, Kaylen Frederick and Zak O’Sullivan.
For 2022, the pole-sitter for races one and two of each GB3 weekend will take home a trophy and a cheque for £250 per pole, a 25% increase on previous years.
The driver with the most pole positions at the end of the season will claim a doubled £2,000 cash prize and a trophy, while the team of the driver with the most poles will receive an identical cash sum and the David Poole-Warren Cup. A total prize pot of £8,000 will be available in the GB3 Jack Cavill Pole Positon Cup this season.
Named after Jack Cavill, who played a vital supporting role in the early careers of several notable drivers from the 1960s onwards, the Pole Position Cup has been running since the inception of the BRDC F4 Championship in 2013, and has continued through the series’ evolution into BRDC British F3 and now GB3. Jack’s son John, who has become an immensely popular figure in the paddock, presents the prizes at each round. John has followed his father’s lead and played a major part in the career development of several leading drivers, including Tim Sugden and Will Power.
The Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup will also extend to MSV’s new GB4 Championship, with a prize fund of £4,000.
MSV Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer, another driver to have benefited from John’s support in his early career, commented: “John’s commitment to supporting young drivers in the championship over the past decade has been exceptional, and we’re massively appreciative that he will not only continue his support in 2022, but increase it as well.
“It’s no coincidence that the previous winners of the Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup have largely been that year’s champion. It’s a superb way to recognise outright speed and reward it too.”
